Troubleshooting

Running into an issue? Here are solutions to the most common problems.

Verification Code Not Received

After entering your phone number, you should receive a 6-digit verification code via text message. If you don’t see it:

  • Wait a moment — SMS delivery can take up to a minute depending on your carrier.
  • Check your phone type — Stoked uses SMS, so you need a mobile phone number. Landlines cannot receive text messages.
  • Check for blocked numbers — Make sure your phone isn’t blocking messages from unknown numbers.
  • Request a new code — Verification codes expire after 10 minutes. If too much time has passed, go back and request a fresh code.

Standard messaging rates apply. Your carrier may charge for incoming text messages. Stoked does not charge for SMS.

Invalid Verification Code

If you enter a code and it’s not accepted:

  • Check for typos — Make sure you’re entering all 6 digits exactly as they appear in the text message.
  • Code may have expired — Codes are valid for 10 minutes. If it’s been longer, request a new one.
  • Too many attempts — After 5 incorrect entries, the code is invalidated for security. Request a new code and try again.

Can’t Start a Conversation

If you’re unable to send a message to an advocate:

  • Advocate may be inactive — Some advocates may not be available at the moment. Try reaching out to a different advocate on the map.
  • Check your phone number — Make sure you entered a valid mobile phone number that can receive SMS.

Can’t Log Back In

To return to an existing conversation, use the same phone number you originally used. There is no separate username or password — your phone number is how Stoked identifies you.

If you previously used a different number, your conversation is tied to that original number.

Opting Out of SMS

If you no longer want to receive text messages from a Stoked community:

  • Reply STOP to any message from the community’s phone number. You will stop receiving SMS notifications.
  • To opt back in, reply START to the same number. You’ll begin receiving messages again.

Opting out of SMS does not delete your conversations. You can still view them on the community website.

Still Need Help?

Reach out to the community you’re interacting with — their contact information is usually on their main website. The advocate you’re chatting with can often help with common issues too.
