Managing Advocate Status
Control whether an advocate is active, inactive, or pending using the status actions on the advocate detail page.
Advocate Statuses
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Pending | Newly created advocates start here. They are not yet active in the community. |
| Active | The advocate is live and available for conversations. By default they are also visible on the map. |
| Inactive | The advocate has been deactivated. They are hidden from the map and cannot receive new conversations. |
Status and map visibility are independent. An active advocate can be hidden from the map by unchecking Visible on map? in the Edit Profile screen. Activating an advocate will turn map visibility back on by default — uncheck it again afterward if you want them active but hidden.
Activating an Advocate
Use this to move a pending or inactive advocate to active status.
- Go to Advocates and select the advocate
- Click the More actions menu (the ellipsis button in the Actions card)
- Click Activate
- On the confirmation page, click Activate Advocate
When activated, the advocate becomes visible on the community map and can receive conversations.
If you have the Shopify Integration connected with Auto-Mint Codes on Activation enabled, a unique Shopify discount code is automatically created for the advocate when they are activated.
If the advocate was previously deactivated, activation clears the deactivation reason.
Deactivating an Advocate
Use this to remove an active or pending advocate from the community map and prevent new conversations.
- Go to Advocates and select the advocate
- Click the More actions menu (the ellipsis button in the Actions card)
- Click Deactivate
- Select a Reason for deactivation from your community’s configured list
- Click Deactivate Advocate
When deactivated, the advocate is hidden from the community map and cannot receive new conversations.
The deactivation reason list is fully community-controlled. New communities are pre-seeded with Inactivity, Suspended, Advocate Choice, and Other — but you can rename, reorder, add, or remove these from Settings → Close Reasons → Advocate Deactivations. See Close Reasons for the full editor.
