Email Verification
When an advocate or prospect logs in with their email address, Stoked sends a 6-digit verification code to that address. This article explains how it works and how to customize the email template.
How Email Verification Works
Email verification works the same way as SMS phone verification, but delivers the code by email instead of text message.
- The user enters their email address on the login form.
- Stoked sends a 6-digit code to that email address (valid for 10 minutes).
- The user enters the code to complete login and verify their email address.
Once verified, the account is marked as email-verified. This is required before conversation email notifications will be sent to that account.
Unlike SMS, email verification does not have a community-level toggle — codes are always sent whenever a user logs in with their email address.
Customizing the Verification Code Email
You can edit the subject, header, and body text of the verification code email.
- Go to Settings → Email Notifications → Email Verification.
- Click any template row (Subject, Header, or Body Text).
- Edit the content using the available merge variables.
- Click Save.

Preview the Email
Click Preview Email on the Email Verification settings page to see how the email will appear to recipients. The preview uses a sample code (123456) so no real email is sent.
