Editing an Advocate’s Location
As an admin, you can update any advocate’s address and manually position their map pin from the admin portal.
This is useful when the geocoded pin doesn’t match the real location — common in rural areas, dense urban blocks, PO boxes, or addresses with non-standard formatting.
How to Edit an Advocate’s Location
- Go to Advocates in your admin portal
- Click on the advocate you want to edit
- Click Edit Profile
- Scroll to the Precise Pin Location section
- Update any address fields and/or reposition the pin (see below)
- Click Save
Address Fields
The address is split into separate fields so you can control which parts are visible publicly:
- Address 1 / Address 2 — Street address. Only shown publicly when Full Address Visible is checked.
- Neighborhood — Optional, shown publicly on the profile.
- City — Shown publicly on the profile and map.
- State — Shown publicly.
- Postal Code — Used for map placement. Only shown publicly when full address is visible.
- Country — Shown publicly.
When you save, address changes are re-geocoded automatically to update the pin position.
Before retyping an address, see Troubleshooting Incorrect Map Pins — small formatting fixes (e.g.
Joto-ku→Joto Ward) often resolve placement issues without needing to manually drag the pin.
Manually Repositioning the Pin
Below the address fields is an interactive map showing two pins:
- Red pin — The public location displayed on your community map. This is the pin you control.
- Grey pin — The advocate’s private location, shown for reference only. Always reflects the latest geocoded address.
To reposition the public pin:
- Click or tap the map at the exact spot you want the pin
- The red pin moves to that location
- Click Save
The two pins can intentionally differ — for example, an advocate may want to be findable in their general area without revealing their home address.
Once you manually position the red pin, saving the profile keeps the pin at that coordinate even if the address is changed later — until the address is edited again, at which point the pin is re-geocoded from the new address.
Hiding an Advocate From the Map
If you want to keep an advocate’s profile and address on file but not show their pin publicly, uncheck Visible on map? in the Precise Pin Location section.
For advocates who only appear on the map (no messaging), see Map-Only Advocates.
