Managing Advocate Time Away

Advocates can schedule their own time away, but you can also manage it for them — schedule a period on their behalf, adjust dates, or end one early.

The Time Away Card

Every advocate’s page in the admin portal has a Time Away card listing their current and upcoming away periods.

To schedule a period on an advocate’s behalf:

  1. Open the advocate’s page and find the Time Away card.
  2. Click Schedule.
  3. Choose the mode:
    • Away — the advocate stays visible in the community, but new messages are paused.
    • Paused — the advocate is also hidden from the advocate listing and map.
  4. Pick the Away from date and the Back on date — the day they start accepting new messages again. Leave Back on blank for an open-ended pause.
  5. Optionally, write an away message shown on their profile in place of the message form.
  6. Click Schedule.

Dates are interpreted in the advocate’s timezone, not yours. A period starting “August 1” begins at the start of August 1 where the advocate lives.

Editing and Ending Periods

Each period in the Time Away card has:

  • Edit — change the dates, mode, or away message.
  • End Now — shown for a period currently underway; ends it immediately and the advocate starts accepting messages again.
  • Remove — shown for a scheduled period that hasn’t started; deletes it.

When a period’s Back on date arrives, the profile returns automatically to exactly how it was before — including any alternate contact box you had set up.

Spotting Who’s Away

Advocates with an active period show an Away or Paused badge in the advocate roster and on their account details panel, so you can see who’s unavailable at a glance.

Time away only pauses messages from new prospects. Existing conversations keep working, and introductions you make aren’t blocked — so you can still connect a prospect with an away advocate deliberately if the situation calls for it.
