Editing an Advocate’s Profile
The Edit Profile screen controls everything an advocate’s public profile shows: their handle, headline, bio, social links, map pin, messaging options, and admin-only overrides.
This is separate from the Account Details screen, which holds private information (legal name, phone, email, tags, timezone).
To open it:
- Go to Advocates in your admin portal
- Click on the advocate
- Click Edit Profile
Details
The first section covers the basics shown on the public profile:
- Identifier — The slug used in the advocate’s public profile URL. Must be unique within the community.
- Bio Link Title and Bio Link URL — An optional link displayed alongside the bio (for example, “My Website”).
- Headline — A short tagline shown under the advocate’s name.
- Profile Text — The advocate’s bio, shown on their public profile page.
Social Accounts
Add links to the advocate’s social profiles. Only platforms enabled in your community’s Social Platforms settings appear here.
See Editing Social Links for details.
Display Location and Precise Pin Location
Address fields, the Full Address Visible? toggle, the interactive pin map, and the Visible on map? toggle all live in these sections.
See Editing an Advocate’s Location for the full walkthrough on address formatting, repositioning the public pin, and how the public/private pins differ.
Active but hidden from the map
A common question: can an advocate be active in the community without appearing on the map?
Yes. Status (active / inactive / pending) and map visibility are independent settings:
- Status controls whether the advocate is live at all — can they log in, be messaged, appear in lists. See Managing Advocate Status.
- Visible on map? controls only whether their pin appears on your community map.
To keep an advocate active but off the map, leave their status as Active and uncheck Visible on map? in the Precise Pin Location section.
Activating an advocate (from Pending or Inactive) automatically sets Visible on map? to checked. If you want them active but hidden, activate first, then come back to Edit Profile and uncheck the toggle.
For the related “appears on the map but can’t be messaged” setup, see Map-Only Advocates.
Advanced Options
These fields override defaults and should be used sparingly:
- Custom Display Name — Overrides the advocate’s first name when shown to prospects. Useful when the advocate goes by a different name publicly.
- Custom Display Location — Overrides the city/state text shown in the profile header.
- Custom Pin Color — Overrides the default pin color for this advocate. See Pin Colors for how community-level and tag-level defaults work.
- Custom Message Prompt — Overrides your community’s default message prompt for this advocate. Use line breaks to provide multiple prompts.
Messaging
- Accepts Messages? — When unchecked, the messaging form is hidden from the advocate’s public profile.
- Alternate Contact Heading — Optional heading shown above the alternate contact info. Defaults to “Contact {{display_name}}”.
- Alternate Contact — Rich text shown in place of the messaging form when Accepts Messages? is off.
The alternate contact fields only appear when Accepts Messages? is unchecked.
