Warning When Application Questions Drift from Their Mapped Custom Fields
ImprovementWeek of May 8, 2026
When an advocate applies to your community using a select-option question (single-select, multi-select, or radio), the answer can be mapped through to a custom field on the advocate profile. The mapping only works cleanly if the two option lists agree — if the application question offers Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced and the custom field offers Novice / Intermediate / Advanced, an applicant who picks “Beginner” ends up with a blank value on their profile because “Beginner” isn’t a valid custom-field option.
Now both edit pages (application questions and custom fields) display an amber warning if their option lists have drifted apart. Index tables also surface a warning icon on the affected rows so you can spot mismatches at a glance without opening every page.
What to do — open either the application question or the custom field and reconcile the option lists. The warning clears once the lists agree (same options, same labels). Existing applicant data is not changed retroactively, but new applicants will now flow through cleanly.
